Vanguard sponsors, one of the best exhibitions of 2023

«GRIS, VIDE, CRIS»

Rui Chafes | Alberto Giacometti

The "Gris, Vide, Cris" exhibition established an interesting dialogue between the work of Portuguese artist Rui Chafes and that of the Swiss artist Alberto Giacometti, one of the 20th century’s most renowned sculptors.

Curated by Helena de Freitas and exhibited at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation's main building between May and November, critics from the respected Semanário Expresso and Público newspapers considered the exhibition to be the best and second best of 2023 in Portugal, respectively.

Organised by Centro de Arte Moderna Gulbenkian (CAM), in conjunction with the Fondation Giacometti, and sponsored by Vanguard Properties - publisher of Portico magazine -, the exhibition offered a unique, challenging and profoundly reflective experience for the 30,000-plus visitors who saw it.

Integrating visual, sound and tactile features alongside the sculptures provided an original multi-sensory experience that invited visitors to explore the exhibition not only with their eyes, but also their other senses.

The careful selection of artworks offers a unique opportunity to compare and contrast the artists’ styles and the themes they addressed.

Those interested in the "Gris, Vide, Cris" exhibition and Rui Chafes’ work in general may enjoy reading the interview featured in the 5th edition of Portico magazine.
